abstract

background & aim: esophageal cancer is one of the main common causes of death. the high prevalence of esophageal cancer in northern iran is an important public health problem. the main aim of this paper was to assess the factors affecting survival of  atients with esophageal cancer in neighbor provinces around the caspian sea using weibull mixture cure model and mixture cure model based on a non-proportional hazard. methods & materials: this prospective study was designed to gather data of esophageal cancer from the babol cancer registry, iran, registered during 1990 to 1991. the study cases were also followed for a period of 15 years up to 2006. mixture cure model via non-proportional hazard modeling was used to calculate cure fraction and investigate the factors responsible for the cure probability of patients. estimates were obtained by maximization of the likelihood via sas proc nlmixed. results: the median survival time was about 9 months and survival probability in 1, 3, and 5 years following diagnosis were 23%, 15% and 13%, respectively. the family history affected the cured fraction independently of its effect on the early outcome  in addition, it had significant effect on the probability of uncured state in the both models. conclusion: the results demonstrated the great potential in cure modeling survival data via nonproportional hazard model compared to weibull mixture cure model.

Determining the correlated factors of breast cancer recurrence by Poisson Beta-Weibull non- mixture cure model

Introduction: Therapies for many of diseases, especially cancer, have been improved significantly in the recent years, resulting in an increase in the number of patients who do not experience mortality. Therefore, the application of cure models is more suitable for survival analysis in this population than the usual survival models are. The aim of this study was to estimate the recurrence-free ...

Application of Hazard Based Model for Housing Location Based on Travel Distance to Work

Residential location choice modeling is one of the areas in transportation planning that attempts to examine households location search behavior incorporating their trade-offs between housing quality, prices or rents, distance to work and other key factors. This brings up the need to come up with methods to logically allocate credible choice alternatives for individuals. This article attempts to...

Outer and Inner Confidence Intervals Based on Extreme Order Statistics in a Proportional Hazard Model

Let Mi and Mi be the maximum and minimum of the ith sample from k independent sample with different sample sizes, respectively. Suppose that the survival distribution function of the ith sample is F ̄i = F ̄αi, where αi is known and positive constant. It is shown that how various exact non-parametric inferential proce- ′ dures can be developed on the basis of Mi’s and Mi ’s for distribution ...

mortality forecasting based on lee-carter model

over the past decades a number of approaches have been applied for forecasting mortality. in 1992, a new method for long-run forecast of the level and age pattern of mortality was published by lee and carter. this method was welcomed by many authors so it was extended through a wider class of generalized, parametric and nonlinear model. this model represents one of the most influential recent d...

Evaluation of Factors Related to Short-Term and Long-Term Survival of Breast Cancer Patients by Mixture Cure Model

Introduction: Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women. Today, with advancements in medical sciences, increasing the cure probability of patients as well as increasing survival time is an important goal of cancer treatment. Therefore, in this study, in addition to examining patients’ survival, we investigated the cure probability of breast cancer patients and its prognostic factors u...

a new type-ii fuzzy logic based controller for non-linear dynamical systems with application to 3-psp parallel robot

abstract type-ii fuzzy logic has shown its superiority over traditional fuzzy logic when dealing with uncertainty. type-ii fuzzy logic controllers are however newer and more promising approaches that have been recently applied to various fields due to their significant contribution especially when the noise (as an important instance of uncertainty) emerges. during the design of type- i fuz...
